I'VE RETURNED THIS PRODUCT. DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS WHITE WITH PINK ON IT.

Like other reviewers have said, these earbuds have problems completely canceling out all noise. I do notice a difference when I turn the noise canceling switch on and off, so I'm sure that there is active noise cancellation. The noise canceling is good for ventilation noises at the office and the sounds of cars driving by. However, I work in a lab, and I can still hear the noise of the fume hood with the noise cancellation turned on even though it does get quieter. I can also still hear some noise when I'm on the bus and when I'm running on a treadmill. I did not expect it to cancel out all noise when I purchased it, so I was happy with what I got.
Also, it is important to get the fit right. I lost the pair of tips that fit well, and the noise isolation did not work as well with the other sized tips. I also tried replacing them with tips from a pair of noise isolation earbuds that I have, but the material just wasn't as good as the original sony tips. The reason I lost the original tips is because they would pop off the earbuds when I accidentally yanked them out of my ears. I guess this means the seal was really good, because this hasn't happened with the non-sony tips. The other parts of the earbuds have been holding up pretty well since I bought them several months ago.
The cord length is long enough for me to clip the noise canceling part on the waist of my jeans, but I'm short (5 ft) and this could potentially be a problem for taller people.

There's a reason why Bose(r) does not make noise canceling ear buds, they simply aren't very effective. Current noise cancelation technology can only work as well as they can contain the audio environment (e.g., like with the large ear muff headphones. With ear buds, too much noise gets through the rubber stoppers, which cannot be affected by the noise cancelling technology. As such, they have limited effectiveness. Any effectiveness is better than none though, and you can decide for yourself if that limited effectiveness is worth the price. (Though you may want to let 70 year old you who is shopping for your first hearing aid decide how much its worth to you of now). They provide very noticeable improvement over very loud and very consistent white noise, like on an airplane, especially larger jet airplanes. Additionally, I have a window A/C and they are excellent for watching TV in my room, despite the loud A/C. Other applications are far less effective. I highly recommend them, but you have to understand the inherent limitations of an earbud configuration for noise cancellation.

I used the provided battery for what seems like 10 hours total and the noise canceling still worked as advertised. The comfort could be better but overall not bad. I wish the cord from the battery compartment to the jack was about 6 inches longer. The noise canceling on these headphones works so well, you could use them without music if you wanted to maybe read a book or something in an otherwise noisy environment. The sounds quality is just fine for the money and I wouldn't expect or even desire better sound quality. The price might be a little high, but I'm sure it will drop. It would be nice if the battery compartment was a little bit smaller but the clip really helps to keep it from flopping around while running or exercising.

I tried this and the more expensive Seinheiser's. This is better. I have not tried other ones so I can't really compare. However this one reduce enough outside sounds to make listening to music more pleasurable, especially in a noisy environment like on the plane.
I originally bought this for my wife to wear due to my snoring. I don't think it's effective for that!!!
