Will not receive ditigal TV transmissions!!! December 5, 2008 NOTE: The product title doesn't mention TV channels, but the product description does.
I have had this radio for about 18 months and based on my past and present use, would have rated it 4 or 5 stars. I use it at work to listen to the radio and, most often, the audio portion of TV programs.
But with all the ads about television channels all going digital early next year, I wondered whether my little radio would still be able to receive TV broadcasts. So I emailed the Sony customer service and got this reply: "I understand that you want to know if your Sony Walkman receives digital TV signals. As your Walkman has analog tuner, it can not receive digital signals after the transmission changes to digital." I am quite disappointed.
So, if you are thinking of buying this radio so you can listen to TV broadcasts, you need to know it will not work for that after the transmissions go digital early in 2009. It is still a nice little radio to take to the gym or on walks, but there are many nice little radios and some MP3 players also receive FM channels. I hope Sony or another company comes out with a product that will receive the digital TV transmissions.
Pre set radio head phone - Sony November 22, 2008 Product seems to work well. Wish they'd still have their pre set head phone. This is much more cumbersome. Having to carry radio part & being connected by wire instead of having it all on ear phones, as I used to have. NOt an improvement, set back, as far as I am concerend, but, in absence of item I wanted this will do.
Sony Belt Clip Radio November 2, 2008 It is a very convenient radio for walking. However, the AM is quite clear, the FM is not.
Excellent Radio Poor Headset October 25, 2008 I use this radio at a fitness center to hear TV audio via FM frequency broadcast. Sound quality is very clear and large buttons make it easy to change presets while physically active. Hold button prevents accidentally changing settings when radio is in use or stored with power off. On the down side, after 12 hours of use the headset ear foam mesh covers have both torn. I plan to replace them with better quality ear buds that will also be more practicle for use when working out.
New Walkman October 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good product for my needs. I do walk every noontime and like to listen to sports talk radio on an AM station. I do not want or need tape or CD capability or the weight that goes with that. For years I used an old yellow "weatherproof" Walkman Sport and it was great. After trying half a dozen differant replacements; this digital walkman is best in AM reception. The weather channels should be a bonus; but don't come in well at all and I'm directly on the coast!
