Awesome...but... January 6, 2009
These headphones are great. The sound quality is the best I have heard so far. It is evident that the Monster guys and Dr. Dre did a lot of research and testing on these. They work great with the Ipod, walkman and stereo. True music enthusiasts will really appreciate this product, even with the $350.00 price tag. You hear ALL of the music...as it is intended. These headphones give the listener a taste of what its like to be in the studio.
On another note, I do have to agree with a couple of other reviewers regarding the build quality of these headphones. In many stores where they are on display for use (Apple, Best Buy), the headphones are in extremely bad condition and falling apart. Now, I would guess this is because every man, woman, child and moron has snatched, dropped and mishandled them. So, I didn't let this stop me from keeping them (I received them as a gift) and I hope I'm not sorry.
If you decide to purchase these, treat them like you would your fine china, and you should have them for years to come. They come with a great case for storage...use it.

I saw 4 pairs of these at the Apple store, all 4 pairs had cracked plastic housing around where the screws are. I couldn't believe all the display models were busted and quickly stopped my purchase.
I would suggest you try these at your local Apple store and see for yourself how many are broken.
Sounds Great. A bit expensive December 29, 2008
I recently bought these for my boyfriend for Christmas. I tested them out in the store and they sounded great so I had to get it for him. He loved them just as much as I did. It's very comfortable,looks great and sounds fabulous. I wouldn't buy these for me but for him, it's well worth the $350.00.
Great Sound, Disappointing Fit December 27, 2008
I was skeptical at first about the Beats by Dr. Dre. I wasn't impressed with how sound was being reproduced from my iPhone while trying them out. But then I listened to some classical music on these cans, and I was wowed. To my surprise, the Beats did a very good job of playing classical recordings. And these cans are made and endorsed by one of the biggest hip-hop producers of all time.
If one word were to describe the Beats, it would be that they are loud. These are miniature speakers! The amplification is great for most styles of music, but it could also make every song sound artificial, as if Britney Spears or Katy Perry were singing on every song. (Imagine Britney singing a Beatles tune.)
One thing that makes the Beats stand out from other noise-canceling cans is that they include a cable with a microphone, which makes life easier for iPhone owners. The cable allows for answering and ending calls as well as skip forward, rewind, and play/pause functions when listening to music. Bose makes microphones for their acclaimed QuietComfort 2 and 3, but these do not have the other functions (i.e. skip forward, answer calls, etc.).
I was really enjoying these headphones until I actually started walking with them. It seems that they have a lousy fit for some users. I couldn't walk without the right cup vibrating heavily. It sounded like the music was fading in and out. Unfortunately, for that reason alone, all hopes of using these regularly were dashed. So I returned them.
Otherwise, these are good (but pricey) headphones!

Just got them yesterday and had already used them more than any other pair I have owned.
Pros
+Comfort: If possible, they are more comfortable than the hype suggests. No sweaty ears. No feeling that band across your head.
+ Bass: I listen to electronic music almost exclusively and these have great bass without masking other tones. It's like hearing some songs for the first time.
Cons
- iPod Soundcheck: These are recommended for use with Soundcheck. This drains battery life a lot quicker. I might stop using it.
- Case: Can't seem to get all the accessories into the case without feeling like I'm going to damage something.
Still wondering
? Powered isolation technology: If you can't disable it and still use the headphone, how can you tell it's working? Will test this further when I travel.
? iSonitalk cable: I've used it with an iPod but not yet with the iPhone. I expect the cable to function as the Apple headphone (answer and disconnect calls, pause and start music, etc...) but have not yet tried it out.
