2 out of 5 stars Disappointing   January 6, 2009
I recently purchased a set of SE210s to replace a pair of worn Etymotic ER-4Ps, and I'm extremely disappointed. The SE210 earphones fit the ears well and I like the design of the cord, but the sound is awful. It's as if the only parts of songs that are clear are the lowest and highest frequencies. Everything in-between sounds muddled and dull. At first I thought that they just needed a "break-in" period to adjust, but after 100 hours they still sound bad. I'm now back to using my Etymotics which are falling apart, and saving my money for a replacement.

4 out of 5 stars Nice, but room for improvement   January 5, 2009

I got these to replace my worn out Shure E3g earphones. I found the SE's to sound a bit richer, but I do not know if this is due to substantive design changes or simply the improved foam earbuds (which are quite nice). While the sound is full and detailed, it still comes across as being rather two-dimensional in that they give no sense of a soundstage.

I ordered the Shure E3c but was sent, without notification by Electronic Expo, the Shure SE210. The two are about the same price and both are sound isolating earphones. The first thing that makes the SE210 useless is that the cord is only about one foot long. To use it at the computer you have to bend over the keyboard and put your face into the monitor. Even if you have your ipod in your shirt pocket, a quick turn of the head to the right will have them popping out. It does come with a nice catalog informing you that you can buy an extension cord. For the initial hundred dollar price, I'd think they could put a couple more feet of cord on it.

I had never used in-ear, sound isolating phones before and was surprised to realize something that never appears in reviews: they have to go deep into the ear canal to work, and that means the foam tips quickly get nasty. I'll send mine back and get some over-the-ear type headphone.

By the way, the sound produced by these headphones is really very good.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!   December 28, 2008
I picked these up yesterday to replace my broken e2c's. I have to admit at first i thought they were not worth the money i had just spent on them. Instead of returning them right away, i thought i'd at least try them out for a couple days and let them burn in. Trying more of the ear fittings, i found one to completely cancel out noise. After a few days, they really did sound spectacular with the proper fitting. Now in terms of bass, i dont listen to much "bass-heavy" music. So to me rock and metal sounded extremely good.

Terrible sound balance. Why I said the sound balance is wrong. It does has the average good quality of high frequency but very lack of low frequency. Which means you will hear unbalance music. Base on the price tag for a review, I only can give it one star. If I know it lacks of sound balance that much then I only will pay $10 for the ear bud. I own lots of low price high sound balance and quality from Phillips earphone. But the I think I may give it a try to buy one with great band name ear bud. But then it only give me the most dis pointed product. If you really want to buy this brand name, please try it first before you make the wrong decision as me. Now I almost want to just throw it away because I really can't stand that bad sound of my good music collections. and back to my low price high sound quality Phillips SHL-9500.
