Good Sound, but not much else January 7, 2009 The good: These earbuds sound very good, better than my pair of Sennheiser CX300's. They are very clear and well balanced, without too much bass or treble. They come with a carrying pouch, 4 rubber tips, and very little packaging (this looks like an oem product).
The Bad: These are very uncomfortable and do not stay in my ears, even when sitting still. The included tips are very stiff compared to those of the CX00's and they hurt my ear canal. It was almost impossible to wear these for a five-hour car ride. The cable on these headphones is very thick, slightly thicker than the iPhone dock connector cable. This makes it very awkward to carry these in your pocket. The cable also has a tendency to pull on my ears, dislodging the already hard to seal earbuds. The microphone also doesnt have a button on it, meaning you have to take your iPhone out of your pocket to make a call or pause or skip a song.
I really wanted to like these earphones. I tried making my own tips out of earplugs, but because of the heavy cable and design of the earbuds they were also uncomfortable and unstable in my ears. After two weeks using these I returned them.
Does not work with PDA January 7, 2009 The sound is great and with my iPod works great. However, I purchased it to use with my PDA and the 3.5 connection I needed to a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor which I purchased with the headphone. I recevied the adaptor only to find it did not reduce to a 2.5. I purchased an adaptor from Radio shack but the headphone only picked up mono and did not work with the phone.
Solid product - Good sound, but inflexible January 4, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the sound quality of these headphones a great deal. For in-ear buds, they have a good bass response and stay well placed in the ear. I also like the microphone for making audio notes on my iPod Touch.
However, the plastic around the wires is quite stiff and grows brittle with time. I owned a previous model of the same headphones and the plastic eventually split, exposing the wires. With the considerable warranty, however, I am not sure this would be a great issue.
Overall, I think that these headphones are a very solid deal, so long as you do not want to actually use them with your phone - the lack of a call-answer button makes the included microphone relatively useless in that capacity. For use with an MP3 player, though, they produce good quality sound and effectively reduce outside noise.
Under rated December 30, 2008 I received my headphones today and was surprised by what I found. This is a headphone that is made for serious listening and made to last.
Heavy cabling that doesn't feel cheap, the ear cup on the phones worked first try in my ear (that never happens), clear microphone. I like that they are designed to wear over the ear.
I would have easily paid list for these. I have paid much more for much less quality.
Pretty Good! December 29, 2008 I bought these as a Christmas present for myself because they were on sale.
Pros: - Great Sound (I'm no audiophile but I'm pretty satisfied with the sound - deep bass however, I would like more differentiation between voice and instruments) - Isolation - I use these at the gym and I can't hear the background noise at all. Made for a much more focused workout :). I used these on a plane ride recently as well and I could have slept like a baby. I had some marshmallow ear buds that were suppose to cancel noise, but with these I didn't know what I was missing! - Fit - I found these to be a great fit right out of the box once i learned how to put them in right. The cord has to wrap around the backside of your ear - unconventional but really quite genius. I've always had trouble with the iPhone or iPod standard white headphones staying in my ear but these fit great. I can also work out with these with no problem of them falling out while running. - Price - you really can't go wrong with the price here for a pair of Shure isolating ear buds. in store - sony's or sennheiser's branded headphones would go well over $59-$69 dollars. - Extras - it comes with 3 pairs of buds to make sure you get the right fit. i haven't had any problem with the rubber ear pieces falling out at all (happens a lot to cheaply made ear buds) the rubber pieces are quite sturdy. so you can throw them in your bag and go without having worry about pieces missing. These buds come with an ugly pouch to hold the earphones but do the job well of protecting them when stowed away.
Cons: Most of the reviews are pretty spot on with the cons. - Microphone does not have any phone controls (play/pause or call/end) and requires you to take out your phone. I use this with my iPhone 3g and i have it in my hand alot anyway to change songs/check email etc. so this is not a problem for me. - The cord is a bit long. - Cord is a bit thick - don't expect the slick white standard iPhone or iPod headphones with these shure ones. it's a bit on the bulk side but i think it just looks more sturdy/expensive. Conclusion: I'm an urban dweller that makes use of these mostly on the bus to work, walking the loud streets of SF, or working out at the gym. Great sound, great bang for the buck, they stay in my ear with no problems, and a handy microphone that works great with the iPhone 3g. I recommend these earphones!
